Last night I took Jason and Amy to see the RUNAWAYS (directed by Floria Sigismondi). It was extremely stylized and well directed. Floria is great with lighting, directing a band into one cohesive unit, and her use of close-ups (like on Dakot’s face) is uncanny. I really liked her take on the story — although I wish it focused more on Joan and not so much on C. Currie.
While I think Dakota needs to work on some of her chops, as does K Stew, I think the main problem was that it was hard to get over the fact that you are watching Dakota and Kristen snort pills and try to be badass. When KStew would try to sing and be all mean/Jett like I kinda wanted to laugh.
Overall, I really liked it. It hit too many standard biopic/rock pic story beats for my tastes, but it was entertaining and enjoyable. Perhaps 15 minutes too long in TRT. I’m glad I saw it, and I’m sort of glad I can’t stop singing “Cherry Bomb.”
